Lo Scrigno Armonico

A lot of the music that enriched Florentine cultural life of the early Seicento (most of it still not published but preserved in manuscript sources) is not yet diffused among the wider public. It is therefore by deliberate and somewhat provocative choice that the programme of this CD does not include pieces that are already “famous,” but, on the contrary, it rummages into the precious “jewel boxes” (i.e. the manuscript sources) to draw out beautiful but neglected compositions ascribable to “Florentine Anonyms.” Consequently, we suspect that the greater part of the pieces of this CD are presented here for the first time after four centuries of silence.
